"I don't know, I don't want to know," she replied in response to Masa's question. Why on earth had she gotten herself into this? Had she had a temporary lapse in judgment? Because now that she was fully aware of what she was doing she found herself regretting every second of it. She wanted to turn the car around right away and never look back. Though what she really wanted to do was go back home to her little apartment, lock herself into it, and never come out again. Naturally that wouldn't do at all, but she still wished it was a possibility.
Unfortunately it really wasn't. Lin bit her lip as she swerved to avoid one of the warehouses. The car was fighting her to be sure and she almost had a flashback to that awful day. Shaking her head she gave the wheel a good, hard yank and managed to get it back under control. Tires squealing she turned the sports car again so she could aim it back in the right direction. Once that was done she got it as close to Hawkins as she dared before slamming her foot down on the break. "Get in fast!" she screamed, ducking as a bullet whizzed over her head.
She wasn't entirely sure what the matter was with her. This entire ordeal should have frightened her senseless, but for some reason her wits were still about her. Sure, she had already done a few things that weren't like her at all, but she was still aware. She could still make fast decisions and she could still be calm. I shouldn't be calm, so why am I? No, it wasn't the time to think about such things. Not when there were still bullets flying around.

Bullets smashed into the metal buildings and wooden crates, that littered the docks. The sound of gun fire was defining. Hawkins hunkered down behind some of the smaller storage buildings, while the group of heavily armed troops continued to fire in his direction even after Lin had plowed through their position. Hawkins had yelled to get her attention, if Hawkins stayed in his current hide out any longer he was done for the troops that were able to dodge Lin's auto assault, began closing on his position. Hawkins was trying to keep them at bay, by firing a few poorly aimed shots at the advancing troops. Sweat dripped from his face, he was out gunned, only a few rounds left in the sigma with only one clip. He scanned the docks, and saw Lin like an highly experienced rally car driver, maneuver her sports car around towards Hawkins location. "Lin" Hawkins whispered to himself, he was going to have to time this just right, everything seemed to slow down, Lin's car drifting to a stop only a few yards from Hawkins, the assault force layed down a heavy stream of fire, bullets smashed into crates and buildings only a few inches from Hawkins. Lin yelled something, Hawkins strained his ears to hear over the gunfire, with all his strength he made a mad dash towards Lin, she was so close.
Hawkins felt the pain before anything in that instant it was like some one had put the world on fast forward, he was knocked to the ground, laying flat on his belly. Hawkins watched bullets smash into Lin's car, she couldn't wait any longer. The car quickly flew by he caught a glimpse of her face before the world around him started to fade to black.
Groaning Hawkins rolled over to face the mysterious attacker, it was one of the armed soldiers dressed all in black riot gear, a gun jammed in Hawkins face. Just before loosing consciousness Hawkins swore he heard "Excellent, he'll be a perfect specimen the project."
To be continued....

This was wrong… this wasn’t supposed to happen! The car was supposed to have stopped closer to him than it did. He was supposed to have been able to reach it. Why had it gone wrong? It wasn’t fair! In fact it was completely unbelievable. But she couldn’t wait any longer. He had fallen, and she had to go even though he didn’t manage to make it to the car. She had to go on, for Masa’s sake. He was a child, for God’s sake; he didn’t need to be drawn into gunfights or any of this. Lin felt ashamed for allowing herself to drag him into the foreigner’s affairs.
It was strange, in a way, that she didn’t feel ashamed for letting the man drag her into this. Why, she had no idea. It didn’t make sense for her to not be bothered by it. Gods, she had been only a few minutes before she had decided to be reckless. But now? What had changed? Nothing as far as she could tell; nothing important, at least. Except… she felt pity for Hawkins, so perhaps that was it? Earlier she hadn’t pitied him. Could that be it, truly? It still didn’t make very much sense, but then again, things that didn’t make sense seemed to be recurring themes in her life.
Sparing only a quick glance back at the man lying on the ground she swallowed her guilt and accelerated away from the scene. Her hands stayed clenched on the steering wheel, knuckles white. There was a lump in her throat that wouldn’t go away no matter how many times she swallowed, but at least she didn’t feel any tears in her eyes. It was a small comfort but a comfort all the same. Grimacing she wondered aloud to herself, ”Did I… make the right decision?” Shaking her head she glanced back at Masa through the rearview mirror. ”Are you alright? I hope you didn’t get hit. I’m sorry for doing that… I should have had more common sense.”

The feeling of bullets shutter against the car sent a chill through Masato's spine. It had been quite sometime since he had been this close to a fight and part of him could understand the Ultimateblade's desire to join the fray. Though, that part of him was just as much against transforming as the rest of him was. To hold off against the urges Masa curled into a ball, wrapping his long spindly arms around his knees, hugging them close to his chest. He closed his eye and tried to think of calming images. His surroundings seemed to be adamant about working against him though.
Just as he had soothed the inner fire the car seemed to hit another gear and zoom away. Masa's eye snapped open and he popped up, crouching in the back seat. He watched as Hawk began to shrink into the distance, several man gathering about him, their guns trained on him. One stood in front of him, unarmed. Masa felt something go cold in him as his eye ran over the man's features. Something... something was familiar about him. Masato shied away, refusing to look at him. Instead, he turned his full attention to Lin's words.
He turned around, sitting in the backseat once again. "I'm alright, Lin." he said in his same childish tone. "I've be-" he stopped himself. He didn't need to make her any more frazzled than she already was. She wasn't used to this sort of thing and knowing that he was wouldn't be the best thing at the moment. "I've been beneath the seat." he quickly said. "I'm more worried about Mister Hawk. I don't think he was a bad man... just a good one caught up in something bad." He let his words hang in the air. He didn't know if Lin would be up to rescuing the man. Masato though, had already gotten the idea that he would at least try. Masa could smell the darkness coming off of them. He couldn't let anyone be dragged of by them. Even someone as dangerous looking as Hawk.

Lin let out a long sigh. Whether it was from relief that Masa was alright or due to the situation she wasn’t sure, but it was what it was. Nodding slightly she glanced back at him again before focusing on the road. ”I’m worried about him too… she agreed softly, thinking about his words. The boy was right; although Hawkins had seemed a bit brash, perhaps, he hadn’t actually seemed that evil. Maybe if circumstances were different she would have even said that he seemed like a nice guy. That is, if she believed in nice guys anymore; which she really didn’t by this point.
”I’m sure that lug will be fine on his own. He looks like he could take care of himself,” Lin muttered bitterly, her anger not really directed at him but at men in general. That was a bit insensitive, she scolded herself. She shouldn’t say things like that; especially not around children. Even if it was partially true she had no right to make comments like that aloud. The witch that was her mother would be ashamed to hear her daughter speak in such a fashion. Not that Lin really cared a damn what that woman thought about her. All the same she did feel ashamed of herself for speaking out of line like that. Sighing she ran a hand through her hair as she thought about the facts. 1. Hawkins had been no doubt taken by… someone. 2. Her new car was shot up pretty badly and would require a fortune in repairs; a fortune that she wasn’t able to afford. 3. Being in the car for so long was starting to bring back bad memories. 4. (and at this one she sighed) Hawkins needed help. Though she didn’t know where to start, she, for whatever reason, felt like she had to at least try to help him. ”We’re going to help Hawkins,” she said aloud. ”I’m not sure how yet, but we can’t just leave him with those people.” Hopefully they would be able to find him again, though… [/blockquote]
